Castlevania : Lords of Shadow 2

Castlevania : Lords of Shadow 2
Collaboration by Eqzitara / Mikear69 / Helix

Update:
Tested on Revelations DLC
Fixed: Shadows/ Effects/ Etc
Removed: 2D Lensflare effects
Issues Remaining: Range Ability Target circle is 2D

Dynamic Convergence Feature is implemented into game. This feature will automatically change your values based on scene. This feature will not work 100% properly till the end of tutorial level.
Low convergence value will apply to Book[Like LOS1] + Cinematics. Higher convergence value to gameplay. Unfortunately these values are not user customizable but I will offer multiple versions.

Important. Must read before Installation.
-You must set MOTION BLUR - LOW. Game's opening sequence will look wrong till you get to settings screen to do this.
-If you need to alt-tab / change resolution. Please keep in mind it can take up to one minute to reload the game.

INSTALL TO TWO FOLDERS ..\Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2\   AND   ..\Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2\Bin\

  1. Posting this here so I dont make a mess of post.
On the off chance someone doesn't want a seperate setting for cinematics and just wants a seperate setting for book

  2. impressive work eqzitara as usual!

Using the High Convergence Version really makes the game feels 3D again! just amazing!

    1. Make sure you read post on LOS1 about convergence. You can adjust it in ALL other games [not this one since I rigged it].

    2. NOO...We want multiscreen LOVE ^_^ AWESOME FIX eqzitara!!! Now I am in the position to not know how to play it... 2D in Surround or 3D on 1 screen.. the game rules in each department :)) "With both powers combined" it will be as epic as the first LOS.
I really hope Helix will look in the wrapper and why is causing the crash since this would be purely epic as the game itself;))

      Big thanks again!!

Install to..\Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2\bin\
      set motion blur to LOW

    2. reinstall driver and do a CLEAN install. If you made sure you installed to correct folder.

  6. Same here. It is installed to the correct folder, and I tried all three of the available files, default, low, and high. Currently running 334.89, installed from GeForce Experience (if it makes any difference). But, it still appears like two separate pictures on the screen, and I cannot get them to converge. I have gotten 3D to work well when playing on my TV, using DDD, but DDD does not work with my Laptop, as it is a 3D Vision setup. Besides, I like 3D Vision much better, especially when using the wonderful Helix Mods!!

Will give a shot at driver reinstall and clean install of LoS2, and see if that works. I am sure it looks great, eqzitara always does great work, and thanks to him for doing so!!!

    2. Strange - I have the exact same issue. I've used probably 20 other fixes here at helixmod in the past but this is the only time I've ever seen this.

Btw, thanks for all your work - you guys are awesome.

  7. It still doesn't work. I made a clean install and nothing changes. The fix is in the correct folder "bin" and shadows doesn't work with the fix. There is no difference with or without the fix. Thanks again:)

    1. Try putting just the 'd3d9.dll' in the "bin" folder, but put the 'DX9Settings.ini' file and 'ShaderOverride' folder in the "Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2" folder.

  8. Copy the whole content of the archive to Install to..\Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2\bin\
Copy ONLY ShaderOveride folder to Install to..\Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2\

    Then it will work;))

    1. Close! The 3d does work perfectly now, but everything is super dark. In the intro screens with the book you almost can't see anything, then when in game it's as if there's a film over the screen that dulls everything. Strange this is the only time I've seen this with 3d vision.

And once again, thanks so much for your help!

In future don't mess with profiles unless we say to. It kind of changes properties of game in 3d [sometimes fixes issues/sometimes breaks].
Its a good thing to know when you are trying a game that has no fix/profile though.

  11. Hey, I didnt cchange the profile and I'm using the high-conv. version (I copied everything to both folders), game seems fine for the most part but I have strange issues with reflections where they render at the wrong depth as well as the sky (moon) is rendered at the wrong depth did I missed something or is this a know issue?

    ReplyDelete

    1. moon is at wrong depth cause its tied to bloom. I will have to look at reflections, they werent wrong at normal version but maybe with the extremely high convergence setting it might be.

    4. Ill look into it but I wouldnt worry about it. But I doubt its a problem past an area. I don't think I'd miss that if it was more then one area.

    5. thanks, I progressed to the next area (back in the castle after following the guy that said something about recovering my sword) and the enviroment is fine until the light that is casted by the moon start casting shadows. It cycles automatically so if you run through that area you might not even notice it. Sorry for bugging you so much as I can't even screenshot it properly ;/

the fix is definitely working as without it everything is messed up soooo bad. What settings do you use ingame? I have everything maxed except for the mentioned blur. I've checked high/default versions of the fix so far and have those issues on both.

Did you mess around with profile/nvidia inspector at all? If so undo.

    16. thanks for your assistance, one quick question though what did you meant by "Unfortunately these values are not user customizable but I will offer multiple versions."? Is it that I can't save my custom convergence as it wont be stored for automatic switch?

      Delete
    17. The dll ussually allows users to save multiple settings. Not in this game.

I am basically forcing a value each time gameplay "situation" happens. Then a different value when it ends.
You want to go even higher then high? Thats kind of surprisingly high. I could probably do a ultra high lol.

I own a steam version of the game, if I start the game without applying any patch it works, while using any of the above patches the game is stuck at the "loading" screen with the hourglass right after the mercurysystem animation. I waited several minutes with no luck... :(

I didn't change any profiles and I set motion blur to low while keeping the other settings as default.

    1. You probably have something open that is crashing/conflicting with D3D9.DLL

Also, don't take this wrong but you really need to look into upgrading video card. I don't think you will get even 30-40fps @ 720p unless you reduce like everything.
      -----------------
Anywho do this if you cant find whats crashing it.
Delete the D3D9.DLL from BOTH FOLDERS.
Install this file https://s3.amazonaws.com/eqznew/LOS2/ShaderOverride(20).zip in BOTH FOLDERS
Launch HELIXMODLAUNCHER.EXE from BIN FOLDER. LEAVE IT OPEN.

    2. ERR launch helixmodlauncher.exe from BIN folder

    3. Thank you very very much eqzitara!
I tried closing any application that could possibly cause the issue without any luck.
Then I tried your files (you're great and very kind as usual...) but I got the same issue. The houlglass is still and nothing happens...

I confirm that I first deleted the d3d9.dll files in both directories (I also tried to remove all the patch files),
then I copied the content of your zip in both folders.
From the BIN directory I lauched HeliXmodLauncher.exe and left it open. Then lauched the game...

I don't know if there is anything else that I can try, but in any case thank you very much for your help, I tried several of your patches in the past, including the one for castlevania, and is is always been a sublime work. Keep it going!! You are too cool :)

    6. Yes, other game works, for example castelvania los1 with your fix works like at charm at maximum settings.
I tried the clean install, and the steam overlay is disabled (if you meant that by "steam community"); there is probably something else that is conflicting.
The game works without the fix, I tried to change several settings but... no luck.

Thank you anyway for the advices eqzitara. I'll try something else... I hope to find a fix since I'd like to play it in 3d... otherwise I'll surrender to 2d :'(

    8. Hi eqzitara, I did some very basic studying about how to make fixes (after all I have a degree in computer science, even if I did a security exam instead of the graphic one :D so I'm pretty bad in graphic), and after several attempts, I found out that the reason why the game was crashing during the loading was because of pixel shader 950A83AC override. After removing the override for this pixel shader, the game goes past the "hourglass loading sequence" but it crashes a few seconds after the "book sequence" starts moving. So I performed some other tests, and I found out that this time the culprit was pixel shader 950A83AC which has also some overridde code in the DX9Settings.ini.

Since removing an override is a stupid thing to do... (it probably bypass the issue, but the game is unplayable in3d)... I then extracted using the debug dll the original pixel shader files to see what was changed and if I could perform some modification to avoid the crashing while still having the game playing decently. Anyway I actually I don't know where to start :P But I have a lot of tutorial to read yet :)

However, what I just wanted to know if you have an idea on why it is crashing (probably is my videocard fault? so I don't have any hope but changing it - which in about 1/2 years it was one of the things I wanted to do) and if I'm going to the right direction. Just to know if it isn't a useless tentative :)

Thank you very much as always... :)

    9. I just downloaded the 'default' fix, and that shader looks wrong:

      ps_3_0
      dcl_texcoord v0.xy
      dcl_2d s0
      dcl_2d s1

// approximately 4 instruction slots used (2 texture, 2 arithmetic)

      Change this to:

      ps_3_0
      dcl_texcoord v0

// approximately 4 instruction slots used (2 texture, 2 arithmetic)

The second shader you mentioned is the same CRC as the first so I am assuming you mistyped it.

      Delete
    10. Is the other problem shader 2DE512C2? Because that is wrong as well. Change that to be the same as the above one (just the two lines) and also delete the entry in the DX9Settings.ini file :

      [PS5BA9504D]
      UseMatrix = true
      GetMatrixFromReg = 12
      MatrixReg = 200
      InverseMatrix = true
      DoubleInverseMatrix = true

If that is not the shader you meant, fix it anyway because it's incorrect, and then do the same thing for whatever the shader is you were referring to.

Let me know if that does not work.

      Delete
    11. Hi Mike! Yes! It was the 2D5E12C2 the other pixel shader! Sorry, my mistake.
So I ameded the files following your suggestion and removed the [PS2D5E12C2] section in the DX9Settings.ini file and now the game is working flawlessly at maximum settings! Thank you very much!
(you mentioned the [PS5BA9504D] but it was just an example right? I didn't remove it)

What we did was simply disabling the two shaders right? I thought they needed to be fixed, not disabled, that's why I ingenuously didn't try it.

Thank you so much for your help!!!!

Actually I'm glad I had this problem because it stimulated be about studying how these fixes work, and I'm going to go a little deeper since it is getting interesting!

The only thing I don't understand now about my problem is why I was the only one having it... but I immagine it depends on the setup...

Anyway, thank you very much again!

      Delete
    12. Great news, I am glad it worked :-) The two shaders in question disable a lens flare effect that can't be fixed because it is created at screen depth, and hence has no scene depth to 'move' it to. There are some effects that are just like this, and they are best just removed. Other effects in other games are things were rain drops or blood splatter or something appears on the screen - there is no natural place in the 3d space to move them to anyway, but they look wrong in 3D so we often just disable them as well.

As for why you had this issue and no one else, that is just how it goes sometimes - as you note the very specific setups people have make a difference (hardware, OS, drivers etc). Out of curiosity qhat graphics card do you have? Older hardware from the 5XX series and earlier were more forgiving of this type of problem, but the 600 and 700 series cards became more strict.

Anyway - have fun with the game :-)

      Delete
    13. @lordbender
Supposedly, this is something new. Ive had someone else run into this issue recently as well.
Do me a favor. Delete your shaderoverride + dx9settings.ini folder. And reinstall. I want to make sure the files are right now.

      Delete
    14. Thank you for the explanation Mike! :)

I was going to double check the changes made in the files but I unveiled a twist in the plot :P

I didn't found the two shader fiels in the Shaderoverride directories. Since I had more than one directory opened while editing, I probably pasted the amended version in another directory...

However the result is: the game works only by simply removing the two shaders (or by using the "original" files extracted from the debugger). (I swear I tried this before and it didn't worked... and I didn't uninstall/install any software/hardware or did anything that in my opinion could affect it!)
And I can say this for sure because I deleted everything and downloaded again the patch from the blog, then I simply removed the files...

I therefore tried to put the two files, after correcting them in order to disable the effects, in the pixelshader directory, but the game doesn't work!

Anyway, I don't want you to lose time with this, the game works flawlessly in my opinion this way...

I have only one question: I used the debugger again, after your explanation to check a second time what happens by disabling this effect and I noticed this:

950A83AC: it appears a "glow" effect on the book and Gabriel (sorry, I meant Dracula, I don't want to upset him :P). This was probably what you meant right? It is not that bad, but I can see that probably it is better without it.

2D5E12C2: Dracula skin turns white. I'm not sure why this should be disabled, I don't see any problem by letting this enabled, why it was changed?

I have a gtx 295, I'm still comfortable with this card, I can't complain too much :) But in a couple of years I'll get something new.

      Thanks!

    15. Also, what driver are you using? I can't imagine two people running into same issue [that never happened before] in different games is related to driver version.

950A83AC is tied to lens flares.

I'm using 334.39 version of the driver

    18. Sadly, both shaders are still giving trouble. I downloaded the SLI high version of the patch.

Let me know if you need me to try other files or if you want me to try a previous version of the drivers, I'll be glad to help!

      Delete
    19. @eqzitara Both shaders in the SLI+HIGH pack still have the sampler declarations in. I am sure that must be part of the problem.

@Lordbender As eqzitara notes, 950A83AC is lens flares. I don't know what 2D5E12C2 does or why it's disabled.

      Delete
    20. @eqzitara Also remove the 2d5e12c2 reference in dx9settings as it tries to get a matrix from a constant reference that is now no longer defined - that might be causing an issue as well.

@LordBender did you definitely make all chnages i said to the two shaders and the settings.ini file in BOTH locations (root and bin)? I also reenabled the 2d.... shader with my original fix included and as you note it changes skin color, but clearly it must affect something else later on at some point else eqzitara would not have disabled it.

      Delete
    21. Well lets ignore what the shader does for now. Its only 1 shader out of 10,000 and I will look into when I play DLC that comes out this month.
I just want to make sure this crashing is settled and I will look into why it was disabled.

      @Lordbender
Please try again. I reuploaded a new version.

      Delete
    22. I tried with this version, it still keep crashing at the hourglass.

to reply to mike, and to make sure that everything is correct, here's the step I make when testing: I always delete the patch (shaderoverride, dx9config and d3d9.ddl) in both directory and then apply a new patch in both directory.
When I performed the fix my self under mike's suggestion I did the same thing.

I don't know why but the game at the moment works only without the shaders files or with the original shader files as extracted using the debug dll.

      Delete
    23. With the last sentence I was talking about only the two "problematic" shader files, not every shader files of course.
To make it work I delete (or overwrite with the original version) the 2D5E12C2.txt and 950A83AC.txt from the pixelshader directory (in both directories).

      Delete
    24. your saying you cant disable it at all? Thats kind of messed up.

Oh well, I will look into it. You can probably play as is. Will take a while for me to look into it.

      Delete
    25. Well that's unfortunate. It's confusing why disabling those two shaders causes your game to hang. The only other thing I can suggest be tried is to overwrite the oC0 register - put 0's in xyz and 1 in w (or maybe its the other way around, I did it recently in Hydrophobia). Do this by defining a constant, say c10 like this:
      def c10, 1,1,1,0
      OR
      def c10, 0,0,0,1

then at the end of the shader, comment out the lines that write oC0 and put:
      mov oC0, c10

Sometimes this does funny things, like make everything white or everything black. I'll try it myself as well, see what happens...

      Delete
    26. def c10, 0,0,0, 1 works for the 950 shader
def c10, 1, 1, 1, 0 works for the 2d5 shader (as far as I can tell, since its not obvious what its doing anyway).

      Delete
    27. Nah I think I have a solution. I looked into what that shader does, I did have a reason to disable it. Mike complained about it as well I think. Its the really bad bloom on character model. Its really hard to look at in S3D imo.
Anywho last thing I try, would appreciate it if you try it.

      https://s3.amazonaws.com/eqznew/ESO/PixelShaders.zip

      Delete
    28. I can't test your new files, as I don't actually have the crashing problem, but the two oC0 overrides do work for me, I implemented them both, so LordBender should still try it if all else fails.

      Delete
    29. Mike, it worked!!!!!!! Thank you very much! I didn't get completely what this does and how you thought about this, but it works :D
      I put, as you suggested:

      def c10, 0,0,0, 1 for the 950 shader
      def c10, 1, 1, 1, 0 for the 2d5 shader

and at the end of both files I put:
      mov oC0, c10

I tested this method with the original "sli high convergence" version (I had a copy in my hard disk), with the "sli high convergence" that it is at the moment on the mail post (which eqzitara updated earlier), and on the two files shader files that eqzitara posted two message above this one.
And it worked with all of them!!

Thank you very much guys for your help and your time!
Let me know if you need further testing.

    30. I forgot to ask this: what is the best version in which I should put this fix? the latest two shader files that eqzitara posted? Or the original ones?

      Thanks!

    31. Original files. That being said, try eqzitara files as well if they work use them. My approach is the safest I think because it keeps the output register oC0 intact, and given the issues you've had so far it reduces risk of any issues later cropping up.

    32. Just so it's clear eqzitara files are an alternative solution as they stand, but I guess you could add my extra code in them as well.

    33. try just my files so I know a more permanent solution for other games.

    34. add those to shaderoverride/pixelshaders and let me know if it works

    35. Eqzitara, are these files the same posted a few message above? I admit I wasn't clear in my previous message, but I already tested them but don't work. They "do" work just by adding the code suggested by Mike.

For example this is the 950A83AC shader i edited:

      ps_3_0
      def c10, 0,0,0, 1
      dcl_texcoord v0.xy
      dcl_2d s0
      dcl_2d s1
      texld_pp r0, v0, s1
      mul r1, r0.y, c0
      texld_pp r0, v0, s0
      //mul_pp oC0, r1, r0
      mov oC0, c10

I just tried again using the files posted by you at 4:56 PM and I confirm this behaviour.

You need to read instructions. You CANT SAVE CONVERGENCE SETTING. If you want more convergence download HIGH CONVERGENCE. If you want less you need to download LOW CONVERGENCE.

    2. thanks eqzitara i downloaded the the high conv but still wasn't enough so i added some more. and it being reset all the time, maybe it will have to do.

  16. Hi eqzitara,

If I copy all the archive in both directory, the game does not start.
The game starts if I delete the "ShaderOverride" from the "bin" folder but 3D fix doesn't work.

What should I do to make it work ? Can you make a step by step tutorial ?

Also, what is the difference between "Default Version" and the others version ("Low, High and UH version") ?
I m using 2x 560 ti with SLI activated (so using SLI ONLY files).

I m a beginner in this stuff so every explanation is appreciated.

    Thank you.

    1. Redownload fix, there was an issue effecting a small group of people. Also give the game slightly longer to load since it will take a bit longer.

The difference is convergence, 3D effect. If you dont know what convergence is you should ask on nvidia forum. Its very important.

    2. Thx for you fast answer but I don't know where should I put the files. I have a folder "ShaderOverride" and 2 files "d3d9.dll" and "DX9Settings.ini".

Quote : "INSTALL TO TWO FOLDERS ..\Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2\ AND ..\Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2\Bin\"
Am I supposed to copy the folder and both files twice ? (in \Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2\ and in \Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2\Bin\)

    3. Yes Jordan, you have to copy all the content of the zip file (shaderoverride directory, DX9Settings.ini and d3d9.dll) in BOTH directory.

Try the new patch, and write here if it works or not. I'm having a similar problem (two posts above). Check this page to see if there is any update if still doesn't work.

    4. I did a clean installation, applied the new patch (tried all patchs) but I still crash when I launch the game. I gotta check this page frequently to see if there is any new update.Thx

    6. Retried. Same issue. The game doesn't launch.

      BUT

I have great news, I tried the version above with HeliXmodLauncher.exe and it works !
(Version from here : eqzitaraMarch 6, 2014 at 12:24 AM

      Launch CLOS2.EXE [the game])

In this case, WITH HELIXMODLAUNCHER.EXE OPENED, the game launch without any problem. The 3D is nearly perfect (*.*) in the menu (everything shakes a bit but it is a minor issue) BUT the 3D is horrible in game. Everything is blurred (exept HUD).

If I launch the game without HELIXMODLAUNCHER.EXE opened, the game launch with regular 3D (as without any 3D fix).

I have no idea what's wrong but maybe you can help me to solve my problem. Thank you alot for your help.

    7. Go into options

    8. Oh my godness, this works perfectly. Thanks alot.

Is there any way to change the convergence with helixmodlauncher.exe method ? I tried to mix files from this method and those from
      SLI ONLY
      Default Version
      Low Convergence Version
      High Convergence Version
      Ultra High Convergence Version
but it doesn't work (the game doesn't launch like before)

Should really figure out what you have open that is crashing it. http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2013/07/installation-known-issues.html?utm_source=BP_recent
      ----------------------
      DELETE D3D9.DLL's from both folders
Install this file into both folders - https://s3.amazonaws.com/eqznew/LOS2/ShaderOverride(20).zip
Download whatever version you want BUT ONLY REPLACE DX9SETTINGS.INI

      Open dx9settings.ini
      under [General]
      add this line
      DefModuleName=CLOS2.exe

      LAUNCH HELIXMODLAUNCHER

    10. Okay, After checking "Installation & Known Issues", I found out the problem came from MSI afterburner. Everything perfectly works now. Thank you alot for your patience, your advices and your amazing work about 3D.

  18. Hi, I have a bit of a problem with 3D vision and this game. when I run game (with or without helix mod) the game switches to red/blue mode and I have to reboot the computer to re-enable 3D vision. I use 2x Geforce 550ti's (SLI) and the latest available drivers. any ideas on how to fix this as I would LOVE to play this cool game in 3D, Thanks in advance.

    Nick. :)

    1. I would assume your driver/overclocking software is causing driver crash.
      Install an older driver
disable tools like evga precision / msi afterburner.

  19. First off, thanks for all the great, work. It works well. I have a weird issue where clicking the LMB or RMB jumps me back into windows. The issue only started happening after I installed the 3D vision fixes. Any idea what the problem is?

    2. Can anyone confirm whether this fix still works or not? I'm on Windows 10 1909 with a GTX 1060 and 425.xx drivers. What is happening is the game will engage my 3D vision emitter monitoring glasses but with the fix installed it renders the same image in each eye and the image for each eye are all double or triple imaged and not 3D at all. With the fix uninstalled the game renders in plane 2D. It's like the game will no longer engage 3D properly with or without the fix. Just trying to find out if it's my system or not. Game worked in 2014 which was the last time I played it and all other 3D games including Lords of Shadow 1 work fine on my system.

    3. On my system I had to right click and Ran as Admin for the fix to work.
